Database Timeouts

Connection timeout

This will abort connection when attempting to connect to a database. Example: trying to reach 192.168.1.1\SQLEXPRESS, this will abort connection after n seconds.

ConnectionString = “Data Source=192.168.1.1\SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security=True; Connect Timeout=n

Command Timeout

This will abort connection when query runs longer then n seconds. Example: when TestDB.dbo.GetAllItems runs longer than n seconds, this will abort the connection. When n = 0 this is not enforced.

SQLCommand command = new SQLCommand();

command.Timeout = n;

For LINQ to SQL:

TestDBDataContext context = new TestDBDataContext();

context.CommandTimeout =  n;
