Visual Studio Windows Installer Project: Using Built-in Dialog Information

We needed to pass in credential setup information when installing our application. The following steps worked:

  • Add a TextBox (B) dialog in the user interface editor of the vdproj

  • Setup the textboxes with required parameters – note the names of EditProperty you choose.. Default is EDITB1

  • Go to custom actions editor and put the following in the CustomActionData property for Install (usually) : /MyParam1=[EDITB1] /MyParam2=[EDITB2] (separated by spaces)

  • Go to the installer code and these values can be accessed in the OnInstall event as: Context.Parameters[“MyParam1”] etc.
